Leanings




Dawson City rests on permafrost. It thaws out a bit in the spring and summer.
When buildings were put up quickly, as many were during the gold rush, and usually on frozen ground, and that ground later shifts with thawing, the structure shifts too.




There are a number of leaning buildings in Dawson. Most have been abandoned and left to ultimately fall over. Many others have been lost over time. Those remaining are a testament to another time, and add to the sometime surreal beauty of Dawson City.
